Dog allergic reaction to a bee sting

Hives with lethargy, vomiting, or collapse are not a monitor-at-home allergy.

Do this first

ScenarioInsect sting / allergic reaction
Vet vs poison control vs ERLocalized mild swelling can often be directed by your regular vet by phone. Facial swelling, hives with lethargy, vomiting, or breathing changes are ER now. Poison control is secondary unless a toxin was also involved.

Immediate action steps

  • Move away from further stings
  • Check for breathing change, hives, vomiting, or collapse
  • Call the ER for systemic signs or significant facial swelling
  • Scrape visible surface stingers
  • Do not give leftover human allergy meds without veterinary dosing

Anaphylaxis pattern

Sudden weakness, pale gums, repeated vomiting, or respiratory effort after a sting are emergency signs.

Previous mild reactions can be followed by worse ones — history matters.

Multiple stings

Swarm events add toxin load even without classic allergy. Say how many stings you roughly saw.

Keep other pets indoors if a nest was disturbed.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Contact your vet for anything urgent or unclear.

FAQ

Can I use my own EpiPen?
Not unless a veterinarian has directed a specific emergency plan for that pet. Get to the ER.
