A seizure that does not stop promptly is an emergency. Start the drive and call ahead.
| Scenario | Seizure |

| Vet vs poison control vs ER | Call the ER for prolonged, repeated, or first-time seizures, or if the pet does not recover normally. Poison control is important if toxin ingestion (xylitol, chocolate, bait, medications) is suspected as the trigger. Otherwise this is a veterinary neurology or ER workup. |
Prolonged seizure activity can injure the brain and raise body temperature.
Do not wait for a perfect video.
Keep fingers clear of the mouth. Support the dog gently against hard car parts.
Update the ER if the seizure continues or clusters.
