Confusion after a seizure is common. Unsafe recovery or repeated events are not “just the aftermath.”
| Scenario | Seizure |
|---|---|
| Vet vs poison control vs ER | Call the ER for prolonged, repeated, or first-time seizures, or if the pet does not recover normally. Poison control is important if toxin ingestion (xylitol, chocolate, bait, medications) is suspected as the trigger. Otherwise this is a veterinary neurology or ER workup. |
Quiet space, no stairs, no forced food until alert.
Restlessness and temporary blindness-like behavior can happen — prevent injury.
Another seizure, extreme agitation, collapse, or failure to improve over the window your vet described means call or go in.
First-time events still need veterinary contact even after a calm recovery.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Contact your vet for anything urgent or unclear.
