Work one step at a time. Speed matters; frantic improvisation does not.

Slide a board, sturdy blanket, or carrier base under the dog when you can. Keep the body aligned. Avoid twisting through doorways.
Two people help: one supports the head and chest, one the hips. If you are alone, prioritize getting out of traffic with the least twisting you can manage.
Press clean cloth on obvious wounds and hold. Peek less; pressure works better when continuous.
Watch chest motion. Open-mouth breathing, blue-tinged gums, or extreme effort means say those words when you call the ER.
