Why this stage is different for Toy Poodles

Even companion Toy Poodles can be working dogs if they hike, run, or do sport. Fueling is not “more kibble.” It is timing, water, and GI tolerance. Extra fat on a rest day becomes weight. Under-fueling on a trial day becomes a medical event. Keep a session log (duration, temperature, stool, water) next to the diet so a sports veterinarian can see the pattern.

   Pre-work meal

   Easily digested meal. Avoid high fat immediately before intense work.

   Water first

   Offer water frequently. Electrolyte products are not automatic - GI upset is common.

   Small meal after cool-down. Watch for collapse, brick-red gums, or unproductive retching.
