Why this stage is different for Kuvaszs

Adolescence is when Kuvasz owners either lock in a lean athlete or a lifelong weight problem. Growth plates close near 18-24 months. Giant breeds should stay lean through the growth window; never “push” weight to look finished. Keep protein high enough for muscle, calories low enough that the waist stays. This is also when hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy first becomes visible on exam - diet notes belong next to orthopedic and cardiac screening.
