Why this stage is different for English Foxhounds

Adolescence is when English Foxhound owners either lock in a lean athlete or a lifelong weight problem. Growth plates close near 14-18 months. Large breeds need controlled-calcium large-breed puppy diets - extra calories now become orthopedic debt later. Keep protein high enough for muscle, calories low enough that the waist stays. This is also when hip dysplasia and ear infections first becomes visible on exam - diet notes belong next to orthopedic and cardiac screening.
