Even companion Borzois can be working dogs if they hike, run, or do sport. Fueling is not “more kibble.” It is timing, water, and GI tolerance. Extra fat on a rest day becomes weight. Under-fueling on a trial day becomes a medical event. Keep a session log (duration, temperature, stool, water) next to the diet so a sports veterinarian can see the pattern.

   Pre-work meal

   Easily digested meal. Avoid high fat immediately before intense work.

   Offer water frequently. Electrolyte products are not automatic - GI upset is common.

   Recovery

   Small meal after cool-down. Watch for collapse, brick-red gums, or unproductive retching.
