For suspected venomous bites, the ER is the plan. Call ahead about antivenom.
| Scenario | Snakebite |
|---|---|
| Vet vs poison control vs ER | Snakebite is an ER case. Call ahead so the clinic can check antivenom availability. Poison control may help with snake ID in some regions but does not replace emergency care. |
Antivenom and monitoring are time-sensitive resources.
If the nearest ER lacks antivenom, they may redirect you — calling ahead prevents a wasted stop.
Even then, puncture wounds can infect. Urgent veterinary advice still matters.
When unsure whether venomous, err toward ER evaluation.
