Burns and a yelp may be first. Breathing changes hours later are why monitoring happens at a clinic.
| Scenario | Electric cord shock |
|---|---|
| Vet vs poison control vs ER | Electric shock is an ER veterinary emergency. Poison control is not the primary contact. Call the ER while transporting. |
Yelp, jump away, oral burns, temporary weakness, or collapse.
Resuscitative needs are ER-now if breathing or heartbeat seem absent — get help.
Coughing, fast breathing, or lethargy can appear later. That is why recovered pets still get evaluated.
Note the time of the shock for the clinician.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Contact your vet for anything urgent or unclear.
